THE ROSEHILL MEETING SILVER RING’S HILL STAKES SHAKESPEARE WINS GUINEAS (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 20th September. The Rosehill races on Saturday, as a full-dress rehearsal for the Randwick spring meeting, attracted the keenest interest features being the defeat of Talking (who has been regarded in some quarters as Gold Rod’s most formidable rival), by Shakespeare, whom Gold Rod comfortably defeated at Warwick Farm; and Silver Ring’s fine victory in the Hill Stakes.

Shakespeare displayed more doggedness than Talking, who led into the straight, while Silver Ring, after racing attractively throughout, wrested victory from the pacemaker, Lough Neagh, who battled on courageously. Sarcherie was near the lead throughout. Results:

Camellia Stakes, of £200; seven furlongs.—Cid, 7.10 (Richards) 1; King’s Head, 8.9 (Matthews) 2; Turbine, 8.9 (Shean) 3.

Fifteen started, including Capris (fourth), Gay Sheik (sixth), Stretto, Distinguished and The Palmist. Won by one and a half lengths; length. Time, 1.253.

At the Mentone races the New Zea-land-bred Golden Promise, brilliantly won the Cup, while Palatinate finished strongly to win the first division of the Dandenong Welter Handicap. Regular Bachelor displayed fine form in winning the Newry Plate.

Results:— Banyan Hurdles, of £200; two miles and 20 yards.—Barnum, 10.7 (Jennings), 1; Eastern Chief, 10.10 (Fullarton), 2; Pride of the Plain, 10.7 (Douglas), 3. Nine started. Won by a length; three-quarters of a length. Time, 3.47.

OMARERE RETURNING SYDNEY, 20th September. Mr R. J. Murphy’s colt Omarere was shipped back to New Zealand by the Wanganella on Saturday. His form as a three-year-old has been disappointing, but it is stated that Mr Murphy thinks Omarere may do better under New Zealand conditions.
