HOUSEHOLD HINTS

THINGS USEFUL TO KNOW

Orange-juice can be given to baby from one month in cases of artificial feeding, and from weaning-time in cases of normal feeding. Two or three teaspoonfuls diluted with equal quantities of boiled water may be given daily. The best time is at about eight in the morning or at five in the afternoon.

Suspenders will not cause holes in stockings if a chain'stitch is worked in silk or thread on the wrong side of the stocking at the spot where the rubber botton grips it. If the thread is the exact shade of the stocking, the tiny stitches will scarcely show on the right side, while on the wrong side the long stitches will take the wear of the button.

Very dirty decanters which will not come clean with ordinary washing can often be treated in this way. Halffill the decanter with warm water, to \yhich a teaspoonful of salt and one of vinegar have been added. Allow to stand for several hours, shaking it occasionally. Afterwards rinse it in cold water, then drain and dry.
