TO THE ELECTORS OF NELSON Ladies and Gentlemen,— I am a candidate for a seat on the Nelson City Council at the forthcoming election. As I am probably not known to a number of you, I wish to give the following information: I was born and educated in this City. I chose teaching as my profession and have had a long teaching experience on the West Coast, in the Nelson District and in Canterbury. Three years ago I retired from my profession, after being for some years Headmaster of a large school in Timaru, and returned to my home town to live. Finding myself with a fair amount of leisure time, and being desirous of assisting social work, I took the offices of Honorary Secretary and. Treasurer of the Nelson Children’s Health Camp Association, became a member of the Arbor Day Committee, and of the Crippled Children’s Society. I believe that Nelson should be more active in providing the amenities that are found in all progressive cities. Nelson needs more and better municipal playing areas, and should do everything possible to attract more residents. A good water supply and cheap electricity are the two greatest factors to this end. If you do me the honour of electing me to the Council, I shall always endeavour to co-operate with the Mayor and Councillors and act in the best interests of the City; and I trust that, having set my hand to the plough, I shall always drive a straight furrow. SAMUEL W. STREET.
