RELIEF OF DISTRESS

URGENT NEED THE “SMITHS” ARE CALLING It was not the intention of the Smith Family to organise a “clothes drive” this year, as they were inclined to believe that with improving conditions and the recent increase of wages to relief workers, a “drive” would not be necessary. However, the need for some immediate assistance in'the form of winter clothing, warm underwear and bed clothing has been so stressed by various organisations and by lady helpers in close touch with the administration of relief, that the executive of the Smith Family at a meeting this week unanimously agreed to the request of the newly-formed payor’s Relief Committee to organise an,'urgent appeal for help. V., ~, j The proposed “drive,” which will be along the lines of the very' suedessful ones held in previous yea‘rs, is to take place on Saturday week, the 27th inst., and the executive ■’ confidently appeals to all those able to do so, to help the Smith Family help others in less fortunate positions; not only the families of relief workers, but the aged and infirm, old-age pensioners and all those who from sickness or other causes have come to be in want and who in the past have been the special care of the Smith Family. It is hoped to have again the cooperation of the Girl Guides, Scouts and members of Toe H on the afternoon of the “drive,” and motorists willing to assist with their cars for about two hours in the collection of parcels of clothing are asked to communicate immediately with telephone 71 during the day, or 883 in:the evening.
