THE WEATHER
FAIR TO CLOUDY AND COLDER Mainly fair to cloudy weather was predicted in this morning’s weather forecast, with showers in the western ranges, and colder temperatures. Nelson enjoyed 7 hours 55 minutes of sunshine yesterday, and this was followed by a cold night, with three degrees of frost. To-day was changeable, periods of . sunshine being interrupted by light but cold southerly showers. The:' barometrical reading this morningviyas slightly lower than yesterday. , A light westerly breeze prevailed this:morning at the Government Research Orchard, where three degrees of frost also were recorded. The barometer since yesterday has risen in the north, but is lower in the south. Districts with a westerly aspect experienced rain yesterday, and light rain fell in the Auckland district last evening. Conditions varied from district to district this morning, but were mainly unsettled. Winds were light to moderate, principally westerly.
