PROGRESS OF NELSON
(To The Editor) Sir.- During the past week or so, we have read through the columns of your paper, a number of very interesting letters in regard to the advancement of Nelson. Now. Sir, no doubt these letters are being carefully perused by members of the newly formed organisation for the advancement of our city and district. Let u_s now revert to the time when 2ZR radio station first commenced operating in Nelson. For some considerable time this station was heard frequently over the air in all parts of the Dominion and in parts of Australia. This station was undoubtedly a powerful factor in advertising the many attractions of our city and district. Unlucky was the day for Nelson when 2ZR was forced to close down owing- to lack of public support. After many months of silence we will surely be grateful that our station will once more be heard pver the air and taking a big part in the advertising of the City of Sunshiile throughout the country. Would it not be worth the consideration of our. newly formed league, to support 2ZR 'with avicw to increasing the power of the station, and eventually making this into an A class station? Surely the members of the League will agree that this would be one infallible method of advertising and advancing the city and district. Another means of attracting visitors to our city, is the wholehearted support whenever possible, of the Nelson-Wellington air service. This means of advancing the district has evidently not occurred to many of your correspondents. It is gratifying to note, that Cook Strait Airways have rendered many months of continuous service to and from Wellington without one single mishap to date. It is also gratifying to note, that the Postal Department has granted a further three months trial of the inland air mail service. The first three months’ experimental period evidently proved disappointing to the department. The public of Nelson-and district should certainly support this branch of the service, if unable to support the passenger service. I am of the "firm opinion that if the radio service and air service were patronised and encouraged _ whenever and wherever possible this would he of great assistance in our city and province.—l am, etc., N. W. HARDYMENT. Howard Junction, 16th June.
