OVERSEAS TRADE
ENCOURAGING FIGURES COMPARATIVE RETURNS FOR MAY HIGH LEVEL OF IMPORTS (British Official Wireless) (Received 17th June, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, 16th June. The high level of imports, which show an increase on May of last year of £4,650,000, equal to 7.2 per cent., is an outstanding feature of the overseas trade returns for the past month. The return shows signs of improvement in British export trade, especially in manufactured goods. Although the increase for the five months of the current year is only £2,265,000, or 1.3 per cent. The increase last month alone was £1,189,000, equal to 3.3 per cent. In the re-export trade, the increase last month was equal to 1.3 per cent.
