MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

(Notes by “Trigger”) The Nelson Association’s winter tournament was advanced another stage last week, when the first shoots of the second round were fired with the following results: — Wood 534 beat Port 531. Batchelor 59 Total 511 The match between Wood and Port finished very close, only three points separating the totals. Both teams, however, are capable of much better scores. Wbod were without the seivices of two of their best shots. A. Hargreaves and T. Hay, otherwise their total mjght have been larger. B. B. Jones is to be congratulated on shooting a fine possible for Port, while S. Spencer and H. Canning with 69 each, shot best for Wood. In defeating the K. Club, Defence followed up last week’s great total with another fine shoot. This team is in good form at present and should prove a very hard team to beat for the remainder of the season. K. Inwood with a possible and W. Kenning, H. Day and K. Day with 69 each headed the scores for Defence,.while F. Lord with 69 was the outstanding shot for K. Positions of the teams at present are: —

CLUB JOTTINGS The Wood Club fired the second shoot for the Marsh Trophy, with the following results:—Spencer 69, Simpson 65, Westley 65, Tidd 68, Gorrie 68, Canning 69, Gibbons 64, Westley, Junr. 66. Lipscombe 61, Flanagan 61, Jones 67, Burn 52, Twort 49, Newport 66. Davies 52, Stewart 61, Paul 61, Walker 65, Connelly 62 and Mason 56, The possible scored by B. B. Jones last ’week is the first to be recorded in the Port Club this season. Congratulations: carry on the good work. There will be ho matches this week owing to the shoot for the Marsh Trophy. This competition is open to members of any' club who have not previously taken part in a B.S.A. Cup, which is the first competition of the season conducted by the New Zealand Miniature Rifle Association, drew an entry of fortyfive teams. The winners of the competition were the Pleasant Point team from South Canterbury, who recorded the very fine score of 493 out of a possible of 500. Sydenham (Christchurch) with 490 were second, and Hastings were in third place with 487. The following are the scores of the three leading teams: — Pleasant Point: Thoreau 97. Chapman 99, Taylor 99, Patrick 99, Roberts 99: total, 493. Sydenham: Barrett 100, Barker 100, Jessop 99, Tritt 99, McDonald 93; total, 490. Hastings: Sim 99, Burton 98. Beattie 98, Carmichael 97, Rosenburg 95; total, 487.
