Mr Roberts moved that the maximum of 5 per cent, be charged, with any incidental expenses. The Tahuna Scout Committee wrote asking that the Town Hall be let free for the Scouts" birthday party. As a motion was on the books stating that a hall rent must be paid, a nominal sum was paid by one of the Board members. The Arbor Day Committee wrote asking if it was the Board’s intention to plant trees on Paddy’s Knob. Mr Roberts suggested that flowering gums would be ideal for the site. In regard to the matter of buildings built within 33 feet of the centre of the road, a letter was received from the Public Works Department stating that an indemnity from the owner of the building was unnecessary. Each permit had to be dealt with separately by the Department. The chairman said that in the past members were of the opinion that for every permit issued for a building encroaching on the road, a letter of indemnity had been received from the owner. This unfortunately had not been the case, though the Board was protected by a statutory law. The County Engineer wrote stating that the road on the hillside through to Captain Moncrieff’s property had been completed, and asking the Board to take it over. A motion was carried, with one dissentient voice, that the Board take the road over.
