NELSON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION RECOMMENDATIONS OF COMMITTEE The Ground Committee of the Nelson A. and P. Association has made an inspection of the ground and buildings and the following is a list of the work and improvements required to put the buildings and grounds in fairlv good order, and presented at Saturday evening’s meeting of the General Committee of the Association:— “We are of the opinion that some of these need urgent attention, otherwise the Association will be put to far greater expense in the near future. BUILDINGS “Grandstand: The spoutings on this building require renewing with the exception of one span which was replaced three years ago. The downpiping also needs similar treatment. The wire netting in the ceiling has been damaged by boys and needs repair. “Industrial Building: This building needs repairs to the woodwork and painting. “Produce Building: Several windows need repair and apparently the ground plates are rotting. “Cattle Sheds: The spouting and downpiping on the cattle sheds need cleaning out and repairs. A drain should also be dug to take the water out of this building, the floor of which is lower than the surrounding ground. “Other Buildings: The glass has been taken or broken out of several of the windows in the lavatories in the saddling paddock. The spouting on these buildings also needs cleaning out and- repairing. “Fences and Hedges: The fence at the back of the tote, house needs repairing, and we think that this could be shifted without much expense and give more room and better access to the cattle pens and lower buildings. The front hedge should be cut lower, as it is now getting too high and is hindering the growth of the shrubs. “Ditches: The ditch at the back of Messrs Wilson’s and McMurray’s properties needs cleaning out. We understand that the owners concerned are prepared to help in this. J “Other Work: The stumps of the trees recently felled could with advantage be cut off level with the 1 ground and covered with earth. The < pepper-trees planted last year need < to be cultivated. ( “In conclusion, the Committee con- i siders that the matter of a caretaker < should be considered to put a stop to damage to buildings, etc.” 2 It was resolved that the matter be referred to the Ground and Finance j Committee with a view to having the j work carried out as soon as possible. Mr Webby, a member of the Com- £ mittee, referred to the bad state of c the buildings and grounds and the ' urgency of the work suggested. ( Members considered that the ap- v pointment of a caretaker was par- c ticularly necessary and it was re- C solved that Mr E. H. Harkness be ‘ appointed to the position. s
