MR G. K. CHESTERTON (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 14th June. The death has occurred of Mr G. K. Chesterton. Mr Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born at Campden Hill, Kensington, in 1874, being educated at St. Paul’s School. He began reviewing art books for the “Bookman,” and then for the “Speaker.” Since then he had contributed to several well-known English periodicals and newspapers, besides writing many books. JAMES (British Official Wireless) { RUGBY, 12th June. The death occurred this afternoon at the age of 73, of the Provost of Eton and former Provost of King’s College, Cambridge, Dr M. R. James, following a severe heart attack yesterday. He was vice-chancellor at Cambridge from 1913 to 1915. A scholar in the more recondite branches of archeology whose learned works on ancient and medieval manuscripts appealed to specialists, Dr James also acquired popular fame as a writer of ghost stories. He received the Order of Merit in 1930.
