GOLF

THE NELSON CLUB LADIES VERSUS MEN On Saturday teams representing the ladies and men of the Nelson Golf Club competed in a four ball teams match under perfect conditions. The ladies played from their own tees and received nine strokes each, such strokes being taken as marked on the men’s cards. The match was won by the men, by six matches to two, one match being ail square. All matches were closely contested and thoroughly enjoyed. The details are as follows: Miss Betts and Mrs Miller beat Huggins and Rout. Miss Turton and Mrs Green lost to Park and Stedman. Miss Gray and Mrs McMortand lost to Hargreaves and Elliott. Mrs Trent and Mrs N. R'out v. Collins and Ryder, all square. Mrs Davidson and Mrs E. B. Moore lost to Cull and Kilpatrick. Miss McKay and Mrs Baigent beat Bryant and Travers. Miss Battersby and Mrs Chnllies lost to Griffin and P. Moore. Mrs E. Leggatt and Miss Maginnity lost to Goodman and Baigent. Mrs R. H. Martin and Mrs Stedman lost to I. A. Mitchell and Saunders. The course is in qiute good condition, but it is very regrettable that the T-jhunanui links, which are reputed to be set in the most beautiful surroundings. of almost any course in the world is completely spoiled by the litter that is seen over the course—wrappings from golf balls and cigarette boxes and tins are lying everywhere.
