Forsyth,: a -.former Mayor of North Sydney, tackled a burglar in his home in Rocklapds road, Wollstohecraft, early yesterday morning, but, after a struggle, .thfe thief escaped. / \ '■ About 3.30, Alderman Forsyth, while turning in his sleep,-knocked a hot water bottle on to the floor,, and awakened to find • a burglar :,in Ohis bedroom. Miss Forsyth, his daughter, who was sleeping on the balcony, had noticed the flashing of a torch, and, imagining it to be a light, put on a dressing gown and went to investigate. Coming towards her father’s room, she collided with the burglar, who had run from the room. The burglar was tackled by Aiderman Forsyth as he ran. down the stairs, and both men rolled together on the floor. Alderman Forsyth received some cuts and bruises, but he continued to struggle with the man, who appeared to be young. Miss Forsyth rushed down the stairs just as the thief broke free, and, although she chased him into the garden, she was unable to prevent his escape. He was last seen leaping the fence. Police found that, although Aiderman Forsyth’s pockets had been searched by the man, some money' inone of them had been overlooked. Subsequently' they discovered the man’s torch, and a button and glove. Detective-Sergeant Saddler and tectives Dallas and Chapman, of North Sydney, are making inquiries-.
