BAINHAM

W.D.F.U. BIRTHDAY PARTY For the local branch’s birthday party the Bainham Public Hall was beautifully decorated in the branch’s colours —yellow, orange and green. Although the branch was two years old, this was its first party, and no effort was spared on the part of the members to make the function the unbounded success it was acclaimed to be. The hall was thronged with dancers, and the excellent music and well prepared floor contributed in no small measure to their enjoyment. Vocal and instrumental items interspersed among the dances were greatly appreciated by all. Following a most delectable homemade supper came the great event of the evening. On the stage around a tastefully-decorated table on which stood a beautiful, two-tiered birthday cake were grouped the official guests and members of the local branch. Little Betty Taylor presented the President Mrs J. R. Haldane, and the secretary, Mrs Webb, each with a bouquet. The first candle was lit by the president, and the second by the oldest member of the branch, Mrs G. H. Teague. On behalf of the branch the President welcomed to the function the guests of the evening, among whom were the president of the Aorere Farmers’ Union, the president of the Rockville Branch of the W.D.F.U.. and a representative from the Collingwood Women’s Institute, all of whom extended greetings to the local Women’s Division on this, the occasion of their second birthday. Apologies were received from the Takaka, Motupipi and Pakawau branches of the Women’s Division. The secretary was called on to blow out the candles after which the cake v/as cut and handed round to all who had gathered for the occasion. Dancing was resumed and continued until the early hours of the morning.
