United A 9, Tapawera 0 Third Grade High School 11, Huia 3. Competition matches, under the jurisdiction of the Motucka Rugby SubUnion were played at Rugby Park on Saturday, in ideal weather. In all grades the standard of football showed an improvement on that previously witnessed at the Park this season. TIKAOKAO V. WANDERER The senior match, Tikaokao versus Wanderer, was won by the former by 20 points to G. Tikaokao, with the disadvantage of a bright sun, took play to opponents’ quarters, where the defenders were penalised. Fowler (Wanderer) cleared and the ball travelled to half-way. From a line-out Soane kicked upheld, Evans returned and Morgan following up fast carried on to place Wanderer in a.good position. Reed and Young, in turn, were called upon to clear. Tikaokao were penalised for offside piay and Evans raised the flag by negotiating the uprights. Wanderer 3-0. Young picked up at half-way and opened nicely for Tikaokao, the ball being taken to the corner. Goodall secured from the throw-in and went over to score. Chapman failed with the kick. Tikaokao 3-3. Following an exchange of kicks by Reed and Evans, Wanderer again took the offensive, a passing movement by Evans. Fowler and Baker being spoilt by a knock on. Tikaokao returned, with Emerre in the lead, Soane and Young carrying on to Wanderers’ 25. Ryder sent the backs away for Holt to dive for the line, which he missed by a foot.. Fowler and Morgan combined and play was taken to the opposite end of the field. Tikaokao repulsed the attackers and swept through to Wanderers’ quarters. Burrows secured and dashed over and appeared to score but 25 out was ordered. On resuming Morgan and Neilson attempted to open play for Wanderer but met with strong opposition. In a further passing movement Neilson, Fowler and Morgan penetrated deep into Tikaokao's territory. Reed cleared nicely from a penalty kick to half way. Tikaokao followed up smart'y and Reed, gaining possession on the return centred to Young, who raced over to score. Fry converted. Tikaokao 3-3. Wanderer again broke through with Morgan and Fowler prominent in attack. Soane cleared well upfield; but Wanderers returned and Barham, securing, passed to Williams, who kicked high in opponents’ 25. The defence held and Tikaokao eventually carried play to neutral ground. Burrows secured and raced for the line, but failed to reach the objective. Morgan’s attempt to open play for Wanderer was frustrated by Young and the defenders found temporary j relief in a force down. Tikaokaos continued to press and a movement initiated by Ryder was finalised by Soane dashing in to score. Fry converted. Tikaokao 13-3. From a scrum Williams sent his backs away; but the movement was smothered and Tikaokaos returned to the attack, Soane, Young and Fowler taking part. Wanderers were kept hard on defence until Ryder, securing in a handy position potted a neat goal. Tikaokao 17-3. In a further effort J. Fowler broke through and passed to Young, who reached the line to score. Tikaokao 20-3. From a scrum Gray sent on to Morgan to place Wanderer on the offensive. The movement was held up by Young, until Baker and Neilson combined to carry play to the line for the latter to score on the call of time. Evans missed with the kick. The match ended Tikaokao 20, Wanderer G. Mr H. Rang! controlled the game. JUNIOR MATCHES WANDERER V. PUBLIC WOR'KS In a hard fought game Wanderer juniors defeated Public Work by 11 points to G. Wanderers assumed the offensive from the kick off, and carried play to opponents’ line, where, in a scramble, Boyce went over for a try. Trewavas converted. Wanderer 5-0. Public Works next took a hand and set up a vigorous attack, the defenders finding relief in a force down. Wanderers were penalised for an infringement and Huband cleared the bar but the kick was "disallowed. Public Works continued their attack, and finally Skilton penetrated the defence to score a good try. Huband failed to add the major points. Public Works 3-5. At the change over Public Works broke through; but a rapid recovery by Wanderer saw the ball travel to the opposite end and a force down resulted. Wanderer secured from the kick out and Jury raced in to score. Trewavas’s kick at goal failed. Wanderer 8-3. A period of play with honours about equal was followed by Public Works obtaining their second score by Davey breaking through the defence for a try.

Public Works 0-8. Schroeder got nicely away, but an infringement nullified a good chance i'or Public Works. A forward rush by Wanderer took play to the 25, where Gill gained possession to go over for a try. Wanderer 11-6. Mr H. Hogan acted as referee. UNITED B. V. TIKAOKAO United B defeated Tikaokao juniors by thirty points to nil. The latter were able to field only eleven players and in consequence were severely handicapped. The first score was obtained by Hudson, who. securing at halfway, showed the opposition a clean pair of heels and reached the line for a well-earned try. Wise converted. United 5-0. Anderson scored in a further effort and Boyce converted. United 10-0. Later Smith took possession and dashing up the field, sent on to Fell to score. Wise added the extra points. United 15-0. Just on half time Wise raced down the side line and went over near the corner. United 18-0. A potted goal added by Anderson and a try by Bisley brought United’s total to 25 points. Towards the end of the game Smith again

scored and Wise converted. United Sfl-.O Mr G. Fowler controlled the match. UNITED A V. TAPAWERA The Tapawera juniors journeyed to Motueka and met United A. by whom they were defeated by nine points to nil. Halfway through the first spell Cording scored under the posts. Lander missed with the kick. United A 3-0. Later R. York picked up and. beating the opposition, dived over for a try. United A (5-0. As the result of a forward rush Bate gained possession and reached the line for the final score. United A 9-0- Mr H. Hogan refereed. THIRD GRADE HIGH SCHOOL V. HUIA The third grade match played between High School and I-luia concluded in a win for the former by 13 points to 3. Warren scored three tries for School, one of which was converted bv Scott. Huia’s score was obtained by U. Reeves. Mr N. Holyoalie acted as referee. DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB FINAL SHOOT The Motueka Defence Rifle Club fired its final shoot for the season on Saturday afternoon. This shoot was the final for the medal, presented, by Mr E. Redmond. The conditions, were two shoots of 300, 500 and CCO yards, both to count. Rifleman J. O. Anderson. with an aggregate of 191, winning by one point from Rifleman G. A. Crossman. Following are the scores: —
