NAPIER SENTENCES (By Telegraph—Press Association) KffHER, This Day. The following prisoners were sentenced in the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Reed: Moss Wylie, dentist, aged 28, reckless driving causing death and three charges of causing bodily injury, fifteen months’ reformative detention and licence cancelled for five years; James Baxter, aged 34, police constable, seven charges of breaking and entering and theft and breaking and entering, four years; William Edward Cleaver (56), nightwatchman, breaking and entering and theft, two years; Martin Peraniko. alias Bobbey Martin, farm labourer, breaking and entering and theft from a dwelling, two 4 years’ probation ; Charles George Riddell 133), breaking and entering by night with intent to commit a crime, 2 years’ probation ; Stephen Francis Veary, alias John Folev, alias James Driscott, aged 36, theft 'from a dwelling, twelve months’ hard labour; Fanko Marcov*na making a false declaration, fined £lO m default six months; Sylvia Mary Flynn (22), domestic, charges of making a false oatli, was ordered to come up in two years.
WANGANUI SENTENCES WANGANUI, This Day. A Maori named Barney Raukopa was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and disqualified for life from obtaining a driver’s license by Mr Justice Smith today. Accused was found guilty of the reckless driving of a car, thereby causing the death of a young man. Other prisoners sentenced were : Gordon Sydney Balsley, indecent assault, detained for reformative purposes not exceeding two years; William Kune, for arson and mischief, reformative detention for a period not exceeding two years; William Alfred Christensen, theft, reformative detention for a period not exceeding two years; Samuel Ross, theft, probation for 12 months on special terms.
