FAREWELLED AT OWEN

TWO RESIDENTS TRANSFERRED PRESENTATIONS MADE A very large gathering of parents, friends and scholars attended a dance in the Owen Mail to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Gonrdic who have been transferred to Cronadun near Tteefton. The hall was crowded. After supper had been served by the ladies. Mr F. Newman, chairman of the Owen School Committee in a neat speech thanked Mr Gourdie for all the help and interest he had taken in the school children and asked him to accept a very handsome eiderdown quilt from the parents and settlers. The little primers presented Mrs Golirdie with two cake plates in gratitude for helping them so much with their lessons. On beiialf of the Women’s Institute Mrs Newman presented Mrs Gourdie with a supper set, and Mr D. Win, president of the Owen Tennis Club presented Mr and Mrs Gourdie with a beautiful silvermounted cake stand, expressing regret at their departure as they had been two of the most useful players. The school children formed a ring round their teacher and sang “For they are jolly good fellows’’ and “Auld Lang Syne.”' i\tr and ill's Gourdie suitably replied expressing regret that they were leaving behind so many kind friends at the Owen, saving that they had enjoyed then live years stay amongst them. L'iie dance, continued till the small hours to spirited music supplied by Mr Milligan, extras by Mrs Shields. Mr Chas. Rail made a very efficient AI.C. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs P. Gilrov and Mr Collins.
