PERSECUTION OF JEWS

ATTEMPT AT STARVATION In many parts of Germany there is a systematic attempt at starvation of the Jewish population, and the shopkeepers are forbidden to sell anything to them, writes Viscount Cecil in a foreword to “The Refugees from Germany,” by Mr Norman Bentwieh. Driven from the country districts to the* towns, they are now being pursued'in the latter. If, in despair, they seek another country, they are deprived, by every kind of device, of their property) and if, as many thousands of them have been forced to do, they abandon everything and seek to pass the frontiers, their exodus is hindered by every kind of official obstruction. Nevertheless, some 80,000 have already left Germany, and thousands —perhaps lninderds. of thousands —may be forced to follow .them. No doubt Germany will suffer from this criminal insanity. She certainly cannot afford to deprive herself of some of the best brains of her citizens, quite apart from the moral degradation which ! always accompanies a national dis- j grace. I wish it were .possible for us in England to renew our experience of the French Hugenots and welcome un- , reservedly non-Aryan Germans to our shores. 1 believe it would be not only a fine action in itself, but in the end would increase our national prosperity.
