POST OFFICE ENTERPRISE (By Telegraph—Special to “The Mail”) WELLINGTON, This Day Another Post Office enterprise, the carriage of parcels by air, has been announced by the Postmaster-General (the lion. F*. Jones), who stated that his Department has made arrangements for this service with Union Airways, Ltd., and Cook Strait Airways, Ltd. “There will be a special charge for air transit of parcels," explained the Minister, “but the Post Office will only retain an amount equalling that charged under its recently reduced schedule of rates, the whole of the surcharge being paid to the aviation companies. Air parcel rates, contrasted with those for transit by ordinary methods, will be as follows, for .the normal class of parcels: Post Office Ailcharge. charge. Total.
“Long and bulky parcels such as fishing rod's and umbrellas are to be carried at special rates, a 31b parcel of this description costing 2s, plus air charge, s 6d • a 71b parcel 2s 6d, plus 3s 6d; and for 141 b, 3s, plus air charge of 4s be - Parcels which are over 4ft 6m in length and girth combined will be accepted at the following rates:—3lb, 2s, plus air charge 2s 6cl; 71b, 2s, plus 3s 6d ; 141 b, 2s, plus 4s 6d; 211 b, 2s, plus 6s; and for 281 b, 2s 6d, plus the air charge of 7S “Films will be carried at the following rates:— Five films, 9s 6d, plus 38s 6d : four films, 7s 6d, plus 33s 6d; two films, 4s, plus 18s 6d; and one film, 2s, which can be expedited in delivery by utilisation of air transit on any part of these routes will be accepted from any point in the Dominion. The new service will commence on 25th May.”
