NELSON FIRE BOARD
COUNCILLOR E. R. NEALE APPOINTED TO VACANCY At last night’s meeting of the City Council Mr W. J. Moifatt tendered his resignation as a Council representative on me Nelson Fire Hoard on account of his appointment to the board as Government nominee. The resignation was accepted, it being decided to thank Mr Moifatt for his services. Councillor E. R. Neale was elected to the board as representative of the Council. Councillor Neale said he would like to pay a tribute to the work of Mr A. E. Dee who was retiring’ from the board. The first two ye:%rs were very strenuous ones for board members. One of the difficulties had been to obtain the confidence of the brigadesmen and in that Mr Dee’s services had been invaluable to the board. The men had more confidence in him on account of his being a former captain of the brigade. Mr Dee’s knowledge and experience had also been of great assistance to the board in laying out the station. Councillor Russell paid a tribute to the work of Mr Moffett as a representative of the Council and moved that a letter be sent to him thanking him for his services and that a letter be sent to Mr Dee expressing the Council’s appreciation of his services to the board. The Mayor (Mr C 4. L. Page) in seconding the motion said Mr Dee had given valuable service to the board in many matters in which he had a special knowledge.
