CHAMPION CLYDESDALE SHOT

FOUND DEAD IN PADDOCK (United Press Association—By Electric Tolegraph—Copyright) BRISBANE, 20th May. At the Ipswich show, Mr H. D. Reisenleiter, in announcing the scratching of lira champion Clydesdale mare Meadow Bank Phyllis from the competition, stated that she had been deliberately shot in one of liis paddocks by an unknown trespasser. The horse had been shot at close range. Two bullet wounds were found near the shoulder blade and foreleg, and there was also a gaping wound near the heart, apparently made by such a weapon as a bayonet.

The mare, which was imported from New Zealand in 1934, cost 350 guineas and was the female champion at the Brisbane Royal Exhibition last year.
