FINES IMPOSED
SEQUEL TO POLICE RAID

As the result of police raids oil Chinese pakapoo premises Wong Lee, who pleaded not guilty, was convicted of using premises in Grey’s Avenue as a common gaming-house. The Magistrate, Mr Hunt, said that as it was his first appearance he would fine the accused only £l2 10s. Wong Yen, aged 72, pleaded guilty to a similar charge in respect of premises in Pitt street, and was fined £25, in default three months’ imprisonment, the accused having been previously fined. Wong Lock pleaded guilty to a charge respecting Hobson street premises. As a first offender he was fined £l2 10s. A charge against Mee Nam Lowe respecting premises in Grey’s Avenue was dismissed. Fourteen men found on the premises were fined £1 each, and three similar charges were dismissed.
