HERR HITLER SPEAKS

FROM SYMBOLICAL SPOT MAY SUBMIT NEW PROPOSALS(Received 28th March. 2.0 p.m.) BERLIN, 27th March. “German workers may die but never surrender,” declared a member of the Workers’ Council introducing Herr Hitler at Essen. Half of the customary crowd occupied the Berlin streets, the majority being indoors in order to listen to the speech. Pedestrians and traffic were brought to a standstill.- Flags were hown at tiie mast head throughout the country at tile signal of Dr. Goebbels, who declared that all the world was lis-tening-in. The speech was relayed to all ’Continents except Australia. llerr Hitler declared that Krupps was not only the foundry of arms of war, but of tiie arms of peace, and was therefore the most symbolical spot from which he could speak. He denounced class conflicts and industrial dissension, and added: “I do not belong to any class, only the people. I don’t favour arming Germany because I am a shareholder. I have no shares and draw no dividends. I am the only statesman in the world without a banking account. 1 don fc want a struggle with other nations. We have no interest in France or Belgium, and deny their right to interest themselves in us. I want to restore the sanctity of treaties as the basis of honour and equality. If Germany authorises me on the 29th March to speak on her behalf I shall submit new proposals. If the other nations repeat their gestures I hope thev will he decent enough to ask their people whether they will accept or reject our suggestions.
