APPEAL FOR HELP TO SAVE HEAVY LOSS A somewhat serious situation has developed at Kirkpatrick’s canning factory, owing to the inability of the firm to obtain sufficient labour —women and girls —to cope with the present rush of peaches. ~ , .< Large quantities of peaches are arriv-. ing daily from the orchards in greater quantities than the labour. available can, handle, and unless an increased number of employees are obtained immediately, a very heavy loss will be incurred by both orchardists and factory. Kirkpatricks offer attractive wages to girls and women, and in addition provide the opportunity of piece work (lib, increase earnings. Some of the employees on piece work are now earning 12s' 6d per day, not including overtime. It is hoped that in response to this appeal many local girls and women- will offer their services to Help the industry in this time of need, and at the same time earn money for themselves. . •
