A CHOIR FROM NELSON ATTEMPT TO FORM - A meeting was held last evening in the Council Chambers yvitli the object of entering'.-.. a> choir .in i-the; Dunedin Competitions' next August., Mr Smith outlined the proposal, saying that the Dunedin Competitions Society was making a special feature of choir music —this year being their 35th anniversary. " . WG ' w ;v There were 30 present at the meeting and several apologies were received.. The:Mayor (Mr-G.. L -Page) -was in the chair.
The following members were ...enrolled: Mesdames Spence, G Watson, Dickinson, Byrne, Silcock, Savage, Movnihan, Noble, Du Flou,' . .Misses Webb, Aydon, Webb, Callender, Carrick, Powrie, Steventon, Gubb, Johnston, Barry, Curran, Blackman, Bensemann, Phillips. Black, Taylor, Messrs Webb, Pirie, Holland, Parker, .Prarit, Harper, Taylor, Du Flou, Gapper, Cantwell, Bowden, Dickinson, Mitchell, Berry, Costello, Hollyman,Hight, Taylor. A committee to canvass for the necessary voices was elected as follows: Mrs Movnihan, Miss Steventon, Messrs F. Mitchell, C. J. Du Flou, E. A. Bradshaw and Smith. Hon. secretary and treasurer: Mr J. S. Harper. Hon. aecompaniste: Mrs P. Vining. The election of an lion, conductor was deferred. It is earnestly hoped that. the.choir will be entered in the competition, the rules demanding a minimum of 4Q and a maximum of 50 voices. The Dunedin Society is doing all it can to encourage entrants and. will billet the members while in their city.
