A FASHION NOTE
IN MEN’S WEAR , Fur has risen tremendously in price, which has its effect on the cost of men’s felt hats, stated a draper to-day in commenting on the fashions of the moment. In regard to men’s wear there, seemed to be a strong demand for men’s tweed overcoats, in greys, fawns and browns. Ike body fitting, double-breasted style was longer than had been in use prior to last season. Leather overcoats Were to a great extent being superseded by these tweed coats, although for the county folk the double purpose leather coat still was valuable. As a fashionable coat ip the city, however, it had outlived its popularity. There was a strengthening demand throughout the country for gabardine coats in the popular trench style in navy and fawns. In referring to underwear, the retailer stated that it was recognised that New Zealand made underwear was as good as anything of the kind produced anywhere in the world. Prices at present were on the basis of last year’s which were ten nr... cei,i lower than in the preceding two or three years. It seemed that for a few months these prices would remain fixed, but an ultimate increase was' almost certain. * Men’s socks, in view of the longer trousers being worn showed a tendency for quieter and plain marl patterns.
