UPPER HUTT BOROUGH

DISCUSSION ON FINANCIAL STATEMENT MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS |Bv Telegraph— Pr«i*e Association} WELLINGTON, This Day. A point in connection with the financial statements presented by the Mayor and Town Clerk came up at a meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council. Councillor Keys said it was quite in order for the Mayor to associate himself with the Town Clerk, but it was not the tiling for the Mayor and the Town Clerk to present different financial statements. Councillor Greig submitted that as the Town Clerk was treasurer the financial statement should come from him. “1 do not went to belittle his Worship, but I could not make bead or tail of the figures submitted by him,” said Councillor Sutherland. The Mayor, Mr A. J. McCurdy, said the bank manager suggested that a monthly cheek should be kept on expenditure. He personally had to sign vouchers and he presented these items so that councillors could “fee] the pulse” of the expenditure. He had left a statemem of income to the Town Clerk. “To test the feeling of the meeting I move that the Mayor’s statement be put in tlie wnstepaper basket,” said Councillor Purvis. “I second that,” said Councillor Haskett. “You will get publicity whether you want it or not,” said the Mayor. The motion was carried.
