GREAT SUCCESS

CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAMP CONCLUDING SCENES AT WAKEFIELD MANY WILLING HELPERS The Wakefield Health Camp closed down on Wednesday last. At 10 a.m. Newman Rios., special car left with the Molueka, Takaka and Collingwood contingents. The town children were brought in at 3 p.m. by Burns' Bus, and at 4.45 p.m. Spiers’ ear left with the children from the Murchison area. Nearly all the children were wildly excited at the thought of again having a car journey and of returning to their homes, buL several expressed regret that the camp had ended, and that they were leaving newly formed friendships and happy'camp experiences. The woiidertul care and loving attention, too, given by the matron and her assistants, had left, their mark upon the minds and bodies of the children and all gave a parting cheer to this band of noble women.

Looking back over the four weeks of the camp with its wonderful experiences, and studying the health charts, the indefatigable lion, secretary and treasurer (Mr S'. W. Street) says, one is struck by the great improvement that nearly all have" made in weight and bodily and mental vigour. The improved tone and alertness, the rounded cheeks and sparkling eyes, are sure proofs of the success of Hie camp. The Matron, Miss Doneghue and her assistants deserve the warmest of thanks from parents and public lor the splendid organisation and routine of the camp. The many hundreds of visito/s to the camp were much impressed by the efficiency of these women; the Camp .association is indeed grateful to Miss Doneghue and all others who assisted so ably at the camp. It is impossible to single out individuals for praise and thanks, but the Association wishes to gratefully thank every person who in any way helped by gifts or service The response to appeals for vegetables and other articles was very good indeed, and this largely contributed lo the success of the camp. To the Regimental and Wakefield Bands for their concerts, to Newman Bros., for transport, to the Railway employees lor the train excursion, to the Molueka committee for providing meals, and to Mr Basliu for his many gilts ol ice cream, the Association oilers gratelul thanks. . , Summing up one can say that tnc initial Health Camp in the Nelson district has been a wonderful success, and this has been due to the splendid response of the public for funds and goods, to the fine staff running the camp, and the great work over a long period of tile members of the Association s executive.
