WAIHI HOSPITAL

MEDICAL STAFFING TROUBLES NOT YET OVER (By Telegraph—Press Association! WAIHI, This Day. The Waihi Hospital medical staff troubles still continue, notwithstanding the' arrangement reached in regard to the medical staff at the recent conference with the Minister of Health (the Hon. P. Fraser). The Board, at last monthly meeting, disregarded its unanimous decision with the Minister and appointed Dr. Rosa Collier as assistant medical superintendent, bv a majority vote. Dr. Collier accepted tbe position and then later wired “I cannot accept,” without proffering any reason.

The Board met last evening to consider the situation. A letter was received from the Minister with the intimation that he could not see his way to approve the appointment of Dr. Collier for the reason that it was in conflict with the arrangement which was arrived at when lie met the Board in company with the Director-General of Health. He was still definitely of the opinion that the proposals which were then agreed to by the Board were most satisfactory and would urge that 'lie question lie further considered, with a view to giving effect to them. However, if the Board still elects to appoint Dr. Collier, it had the right to do so, provided that the formalities of section 38 of the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act were complied with. After a brief discussion, the Board resolved to call fresh applications for an Assistant Medical Superintendent, the motion being carried by five votes to three.
