NEW EDUCATION BILL

RAISING SCHOOL LEAVING AGE PROVISION MADE FOR EXEMPTION (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 31st January, 1 p.m.) LONDON, 30th January. The new Education Bill provides raising the school leaving age from 14 to 15. Provision is made for exemption from school attendance between these ages provided the local authority is satisfied that a child can find beneficial employment, and the certificate may be cancelled if the employer does riot observe the undertaking or child fails to make use of his opportunities for further education. The Bill provides that children can withdraw from school religious instruction if it is provided elsewhere.
