DEMAND FOR DIAMONDS
TRADE PROSPECTS BETTER An optimistic note was struck by Mr E. Abrahams, chairman of the Transvaal Licensed Diamond Dealers' Association, in his speech at the annual meeting of the association. “We have good grounds for believing that the prospects of the diamond trade internationally are better,” said Mr Abrahams, “and although we cannot record any real advance in prices during the year, yet the volume of business in Europe and America has been greater and confidence to some extent has been re-established.
“I strike an optimistic note because the diamond stocks of the world are diminishing, the demand for diamonds is improving, and I feel sure that the diggers themselves are going to obtain better conditions from the Government —and that all these factors will relieve the Government of the necessity of the continued restrictions on the alluvial fields.”
