EVENING SPORTS BOLAAI WINS 50 YARDS SCRATCH RACE There was a fair attendance of the puoiic at uie Swimming Chib’s sports at the Municipal Baths last evening. Tlie weal tier was line, and tlie crowd, tnough not roused to a high piten of excitement, found tiie sports interesting enough. The fields in one or two events were small but tlie races were Keenly louglit. Ihe spectators were kept well informed and entertained by means of a loudspeaker. Of tlie field of four all went away to an even start except Tout, who delayed his dive. Boiam and Clarke soon drew away from tlie others, turning, almost level, but in an exciting finisii Boiam won by a touch. 66 2-3 yards men’s freestroke handicap : Harris (2secs) 1; Boulton (scr) 2. Time, 62 3-ssecs. Marks and Boulton reduced a portion of the handicap in the first length, but Harris continued strongly and won by inches from Boulton, with the other two men not far away —a keenly contested event.

The competitors were level on the second turn, but Marks had gained a lead by the end of the third length. He maintained his lead, with Hansen pressing him. close, and won by three yards.
