The Nelson City Council at last night’s meeting passed a vote of sympathy to the widow and family of the late Mr W. Liddle, of Tahunanui, councillors standing as a« mark of respect. Councillor S. H. It is announced that Mr Francis Frazer MacKenzie, Government Valuer at Wellington', is to’retire shortly,-after 35 years’ service in the Valuation, Department: Mr MacKenzie, who has.held important positions in the Department in Auckland, Dunedin,' and Wellington, was born in Dublin-, and come to-New Zealand at an early age, joining the Public Service in Auckland in 1900.. '-He eventually became District Valuer ; ;in Auckland, and in 1914. Was in charge of the revaluation of ' Auckland' City and the suburbs. Following •a ' visit to England, Mr MacKenzie was- appointed District Valuer in Dunedin, and again carried out a revaluation of. his area, including the Dunedin suburbs. After its completion in- 1920, Mr MacKenzie was transferred to Wellington and his final important work for the Department has been the revaluation, of Wellington City and suburbs. Mi- MacKenzie is a nephew -of Professor'MacKenzie and the late Sir John MacKenzie, who held Ministerial office for many years in the Seddon Cabinet. /
