FUTURE AT CANBERRA POSSIBILITY OF CLOSING • Because it. has been informed that no students will be sent this year from New South Wales, the Federal Ministry is seriously considering the closing of tlie Federal Forestry School at Canberra. Students are not now sent to the school from Victoria, because training in forestry is provided at the State Forests Commission’s school at Creswick. The Minister for the Interior, Mr Paterson, said he was aware of ■ the decision of the New South Vales authorities, but it was too soon to discuss the future of the school. Negotiations were proceeding with the States. The Australian Forestry School was established by the Federal Ministry in 1925, primarly to give professional education to recruits ' )of the (State forestry services and the Commonwealth Forestry Bureau. The InspectorGeneral of Forests, Mr C. E. LanePoole, is the principal of the school. Students are accepted provided they are university graduates, or have taken a mininnpn course of two years in science at a university. The course, is for two years, at the end of winch successful students are awarded a diploma in forestry. The school is situated on the western boundary of Canberra, and it is equipped with lecture rooms, a laboratory, library, museum .arid workshop. Close by is the Federal forest nursery.
