A NOBLE LIFE AND EXAMPLE
DEATH OF KING GEORGE' RESOLUTION OF NELSON CITY COUNCIL “Remembering with gratitude the noble life and example ‘of 'his late Majesty King George the Fifth, and all the benefits derived from his wisdom raid devotion to duty during his twentyfive years reign, the Nelson City Council hereby places on record its deep sorrow at his death and its loyal sympathy with His Majesty King Edward the Eighth, Her Majesty the Queen and members of the Royal Family; and in expressing its loyalty to His Majesty King Edward the Eighth on his succession to the Throne prays that under the guidance of Divine Providence his reign may be long and peaceful and fraught with many blessings both to himself and to his people.” Before recognising an adjournment of five minutes at last night’s meeting, the Nelson City Council passed the above resolution expressing its sorrow at the death of King George, and loyal sympathy to King Edward VIII. and members of the Royal family.
The Mayor (Mr G. L. Page) in moving the motion said the late King had been honoured and revered by all people throughout the British Empire and by all nations in the world. By his nobleness of character and devotion to his high office he had won the affection of the people of the Empire. Councillor S. H. Moynagh who seconded the motion, said he wished to associate himself with the expression of regret at the late King’s death and express the hope that King Edward s reign would be, as stated in the wording of the resolution, “peaceful and fraught with many blessings.”
