POST-PRIMARY PUPILS

CONCESSIONS TO CONTINUE DECISION BY MINISTER [By. Telegraph—Press Association] CHRISTCHURCH, 30th January. A decision to continue concessions that have been granted to fee-paying pupils in all types of Government postprimary schools for the last five years has been made by the Minister of Education, Hon. P. Fraser. Mr Fraser said to-day that because a number of parents were still in grave financial difficulty he had approved of the extension of junior free places for an additional year for pupils at postprimary schools who have not already held free places' for more than two years and who failed to secure senior free places at the end of 1935. He hail also approved of ail extension to the end of the present year of senior free, places of pupils who will have attained tlie age of I!) years during the year, provided that in the case ■ of both junior and senior free place extensions the parent of the pupil proves to the satisfaction of tlie Director of Education that he is unable to provide the necessary fees for the tuition of his child after the expiry of his free place. In tlie case of junior pupils, except under special circumstances, no consideration will be given to any application for tlie concession if it is not made within a month after tlie reopening- of the school. Parents will be expected in the first instance to apply to the principal of the school.
