MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL (From Our Own Correspondent) •At the last fortnightly meeting of the Richmond Borough Council the following were present : The Mayor (Mr IL Warren Kelly) in the chair, Councillors M. H. ..McGlaslien, E. Norris. W. L. Palmer, R. J. Polglaze, W. if. Poole and A. Tutfnell. Accounts amounting to £BO Ms 2d were presented and passed for payment on the motion of Councillors Norris and Poole. FOREMAN'S REPORT “The ditches in the lower end of Gladstone road and the Tip have been cleaned out. The grader has been worked on the main highway also Wensley road and Upper and Lower Queen street. The weeding of the footpaths and watertables is still being attended to. The top dressing of Queen street is not quite completed. Twenty-four yards of sharp gravel have been carted into the yard and 25 yards for top-dressing Queen street. 1 will require 23 chain of half inch piping for laying the water supply to properties in Pleadingly Lane. ’ CORRESPONDENCE The British Pavements Co. Ltd., wrote agreeing to additional terms ior hire of the Council’s road roller. The Mayor stated that he had inspected the works and the engine under working conditions and everything was quite satisfactory. The Main Highway Council wrote asking for tentative estimates of work proposed to be undertaken, both for construction and maintenance, during the forthcoming financial year. It was resolved that provision be included in the estimates for top-dressing the main highway. ' A quotation from the contractors for additional painting work at the Fire Brigade Station and the Old Council Chambers was accepted, the work being authorised on the motion of Councillors Tuffnell and Poole. Mr F. Ledger made application on behalf of an owner of property in Hill street, for approval of sub-division which was granted. Permit was also granted to Messrs Brooks and McDonald for the erection of a dwelling-house and motor garage m Wensley road. The Town Clerk as instructed to obtain a quotation from the Waimca Power Board for the installation of two street lights, one in Oxford street and one m Edward street. In the matter of a lamp at the corner of Appleby road and Wensley road the Mayor explained that this would have to be undertaken jointly with the v\ ainiea County Council and that it would be necessary to obtain a petition from the surrounding residents to have the licrht installed. Councillor Palmer undertook to have a petition circulated as the position was a bad one and a light greatly needed. . ~ The matter of renewing flex in tlie Institute Hall was left in the bands of the Town Clerk. , i Councillor Norris reierred to the need for improving the approach to the entrance at the Railway Station gate and moved that a load of gravel be placed there to fill up the depression. Tt was also resolved to place some giavel at the approach to a property m Hill street where the clay has been washed away during heavy rains. The Council rose at 8.50 p.m.
