SLASHED TO DEATH

BY FELLOW CONVICT MURDER CASE RECALLED (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, 28th January. A message from Joliet (Illinois) states that KichartT Loel), who, with Nathan Leopold, is serving a 99 years’ sentence for the murder of Bobby Franks, was slashed to death by a fellow convict, James Day, who attacked him with a razor. Loeb and Leopold murdered Franks in. May, 1924, and were sentenced to their long prison term on lOtli September of the same year. In recent years Loeb had been allowed considerable liberty within, the prison and, with Day, was organising a correspondence school for the use of prisoners at the time of the attack. The Loeb-Leopold case was one of the most sensational in the annals of American criminal history. Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold, university students and sons of prominent Chicago millionaires, admitted kidnapping and murdering a boy friend, Bobby Franks, son of a wealthy and socially prominent business man. The crime was carefully planned, and the only motive appeared to be to pro ide a sensation.
