R. Semple, at a reception in his honour at Kilbirnie last night by his constituents of Wellington East. “We have the courage to do the job, and no obstacle will stop us.” The Minister’s allusion was to the work in prospect for the Labour Government in the months to come. He stated that his journeying round the country sihce his elevation to Cabinet rank had disclosed that there were barriers to the Government’s programme and pitfalls in its path, “As I have said before,” added Mr" Semple, “if there is an obstacle it will be removed. There is no force that will stop us getting through with our work.”

LABOUR STILL THE ADVOCATE OF SOCIALISM

“The Labour Government stands unchanged in its principles from those itstood for 30 years ago, and it is still the same advocate of Socialism,” said the Minister of Mines, Hon. P. C. Webb, during a reception at Kilbirnie last night to the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works.

“It is the times that have changed, not Labour’s principles,” continued Mr Webb. “The Government represents the new thought in the world to-day end the new order of society. The public conscience of New Zealand rebelled against the old order of things, and Labour was given a mandate to give expression to the awakened conscience. The people have played their part in a determination to give effect to the new order. It now remains for the Government to play its part.”
