EXECUTIVE AIEETS NEWMAN SHIELD CHALLENGE At a meeting of the executive of the above Association, the president Mr E. R. Neale presided. The president explained the position regarding Nelson’s inability to keep its Newman Shield fixture with Motueka and it was decided to instruct delegates to the District Association that the Civ Association was prepared to play a challenge match at a later date subject to the holders being | agreeable Regarding the Tahuna v. Hospital match which was not played owing to the Hospital swimming sports being held oil that date, it was decided at the request of the Tahuna Club, that the match be played later in the season. With regard to fixtures for Ist February it was decided that fixtures be drawn but that clubs desiring a bye would be granted same providing application was made in time. A letter was received from Mr M. McLeod, suggesting ways and means of improving-cricket in Nelson. The letter was held over to be considered by a fuller meeting. WEARING OF FLANNELS Reference was made to the practice of players in the junior grades playing in varied coloured flannels. Delegates agreed that the practice was becoming much too common and while it is known that some players are linancially unable to wear white flannels it is also known that some offenders having them appear to. reserve them for other occasions.
