NELSON PROVINCIAL SCOTTISH SOCIETY

EXECUTIVE MEETING The monthly executive meeting oi the Nelson Provincial Scottish Society was held in the society’s rooms. There were present: Chief Walter Black, Past Chief Major Jamieson, Chieftains Brownlie and Bishop, Councillors McHardy and McChesney, Mesdames Black, Prior, McChesney and Hay, treasurer E. ,B. Boss and secretary S. J. Mackie. , As a mark of respect to his late Majesty King George, all stood in reverent silence for a minute before commencing the business of the evening. Correspondence was read from the Marlborough and Motueka societies, expressing their intention to be represented at the Nelson Society’s annual Burns’ Night, which event has been postponed owing to the national bereavement.

The definite date of the Burns’ Night will he advertised in “The Mail” as soon as advice is received from the Hon. Peter Eraser, who will he the principal speaker of the evening. As tills was the last executive meeting before the annual general meeting in February Chief Black took the opportunity of thanking all the members of the committee for the splendid year's work they had done. The society’s increased membership was very gratifying and steadily growing. The -treasurer’s report was read, showing the .finances of the society to he very satisfactory. The meeting closed at 10 p.m. with a vote of thanks to the chair.
