WATERSIDE WORKERS

ANNUAL PICNIC SUCCESSFUL DAY AT STOKE The picnic of the Nelson Waterside Workers’ Union was held on Saturday at a residential property at the Upper back road of Stoke. Despite the weathel 1 conditions in the early part of the morning the day turned out favourable. There was a ‘ fairly large attendance and the day proved an enjoyable due for young and old. The different sports were very successful. Members of the St. John Ambulance were in attendance, but there were only a few minor cases to attend to. Their services were appreciated, however. The committee wish to thank the donors of the various trophies which with free ice cream and presents for the children contributed to make the day a success. The winners of the various races were as follows: — Men’s watersiders’ handicap race: J. Hands 1, J. Hawthorne 2, V. Wolfe 3. Watersiders’ wives' handicap race: Mrs F. Price 1, Mrs Hands 2, Mrs Burns 3. Open race, men’s: S. Barnett 1, S. Goodman 2, C. Burns 3. Heaving line event, watersiders: W. Marshall 1, A. Strand 2, J.
