BURSTING DYKES
FRENCH VILLAGE: AWAKENED r (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) PARIS, Bth January. . Recalling stories of bursting dykes in the Netherlands in the Middle Ages, inhabitants of the village of Laronde, near La Rochelle, were awakened by the beating of drums and told that the dykes had burst. Families worked throughout the night and all to-day repairing the river banks, while their household possessions were floating in the streets.
