HIGH SALARIES
INDIVIDUALS IN AMERICA (United Press Association-By Electric Teleg/aph—Copyright) WASHINGTON, 9th January. The names of 18,000 individuals in America receiving annual salaries in excess of 15,000 dollars during 1934 are published by a Congressional committee. The number of incomes in excess of 100,000 dollars was found to be far from rare among motion picture people. Mae West led the list with 339,000 dollars. Others were Marlene Dietrich, 145.000; \V. C. Fields, 155,000; Miriam Hopkins, 71,000; Gary Cooper, 139,000; Charles Chaplin, 143,000; and Claudette Colbert, 85.000 dollars Mr George llill, president of the American Tobacco Company, led business executives with 187,000 dollars. In the newspaper field Mr W. 11. Hearst received a round 500.000 dollars in sain ry from various enterprises. Ilis editorial writer, Mr Arthur Brisbane, received 285,000.
