SWEDE WITH A CANNON=BALL SERVICE (By Air Mail—From Our Own Correspondent) I LONDON, 19th December, i A Swedish amateur, a colossus in ! more senes than one, has suddenly j startled the European lawn tennis dovecotes. His name is Karl Xchroeder, a blond Goliath who has reduced his | weight from a good 1(1 to n useful List in order to play something better than I pat hall. In an indoor tourney at 'Hamburg, after defeating the German j second string, Schroeder overwhelmed even the famous von Gramm himself. His long suit is a cannot-ball service said to make Tikien’s fiercest look like googlies, Tn vainly endeavouring (to stem* 3 the tide of the big Swede’s deliveries, von Cranim smashed a (couple of perfectly good three-guinea i rackets. I’lic only dubious point in this "story is that Xchroeder got his weight down by swimming exercise, which is always regarded as fleshforming. No doubt wo shall in due course sec the Swedish prodigy at Wimbledon. But tennis matches that • entirely depend on service are not my sport.
