RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP 136 RINKS PARTICIPATING (British Official Wireless) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Thirteen greens were in use to-day for the start of the rinks championship m the New Zealand bowling tournament. Sectional play will continue until Tuesday next. One hundred and thirty-six riiiks took part, including live made up of members of the visiting party from .New South Wales. Again the weather was overcast and threatening for the start of play, hut the greens were in excellent order. The rinks were divided into sections of ten or more, each team playing two games a day for four days, each game being of twenty-five heads. Post section play, will then start on the automatic two life principle with three games of twenty-one heads each day. To qualify for post sectional play rinks must have won six or more games in their sections, won sections or tied as section winners. In post sectional play a team twice defeated will not continue. Last year’s champion rink, Grey Lynn is defending the title, with H. Whittle as skip, but with J. Higginson as third in place of W. Liversidge. Liiiwood, the 1934 winners at Dunedin,, when the rink comprised G. Dickson, F. Redpath, H. D. Gibson and H. Wilson (skip) is again contesting the title with one change, S. Snedden replacing Gibson, who is now a resident of Auckland, and is skipping the Balmoral rink in the championship. Wilson and Snedden are also among the surviving pairs players.
