LAYING TOTALISATOR ODDS
£4O FINE AT DUNEDIN (By Telegraph—Press Association) DUNEDIN. This Day. On four charges of laying totalisator odds, John Joseph Lowery was fined £4O. “This is the first time I have heard Iho suggestion that the path for betting has been greased by going to church,’’ commented the Magistrate, when counsel for Lowery contended that a constable with whom defendant had made a bet had ingratiated himself with defendant while they were on their way to early morning church.
