NELSON EVENING SPORTS’ MEETING
Owing to the visit of the Grenadier Guards’ Band on Thursday evening next, the evening sports’ meeting, advertised for that night at Trafalgar Par 6/ lias been- postponed until . the following Thursday, 17th January, atgJo p.m. sharp. Judging from the number of enquiries from intending competitors there should be large entries for .the various events. The Blenheim club will lie sending through a team of athletes, while a large number of Motueka competitors and officials will be taking part. As many entries are expected from Nelson athletes of both sexes, there should be keen competition in all events and a good evening’s sjiort provided. Intending competitors are reminded that Nelson entries close with Mr Dimford, c/o Hannah & Co., Trafalgar street and Motueka nominations with Mr J. I. Corry, Swan Road, Motueka on Tuesday, loth January, at 8 p.m. The joint liandicappers will be Messrs Dunford (Nelson) and H. Stanton .(Motueka). At 8.15 p.m. immediately after the sports are over, a meeting of all interested in the formation of a NelsOu branch of the Motueka / Amateur Athletic Club will be held in the Rialto Tea Rooms, Trafalgar street, ■where it -is . confidently anticipated that there will be a large attendance. It is intended that the branch will bo run entirely by local officials.- At the conclusion of the meeting the newly elected officers and wisiting athletes will Jie entertained at supper by the Motueka. executive.
The. sports’ programme (entries free) will consist of,. 75 yards’ junior men’s handicap (18,. and, under}; 100 yards senior men’s handicap; 75 yards ladies' handicap; 75 yards girls’ handicap; 100 yards boys’ handicap; men’s high jump handicap; half mile men’s handicap; and, if sufficient entries are forthcoming, a mile handicap will be added to the programme.
