ALLEGATIONS OF FRAUD

MAGISTRATE’S COURT PROCEEDINGS LONG HEARING EXPECTED (By Tsle&raph —Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Allegations of fraud in connection with the Craftsman Manufacturing Company of New Zealand formed the basis ot charges against Charles Vickers, aged 44 years, clerk, and Ernest Mubin Gilmour, aged 49 years, accountant, in the Magistrate’s Court. There are three joint charges—two against Vickers alone, and seven against Gn1110111’. There are 25 witnesses, and it is expected the hearing will last three days. Mr La-wry, S.M., was on the bench. The joint charges are that Vickers and Giimour, between July, 1930, and March, 1931, at Wellington and elsewhere, did conspire with each other and with Frederick A. Kelly to defraud eight persons of divers sums, that oil about 25th March, 1931, with intent to defraud, they did obtain from F. M. Herrick £250 by falsely representing that the company had secured largo orders for flood lights from the Wellington Harbour Board and General Motors; that in August, 1931, they did obtain with intent to defraud £2OO from W. H. McKinney by false representations regarding Craftsman lights. Vickers is charged with obtaining with intent to defraud sums of £looo from James John Patterson at Manaia, and from F. Jcmiess at Wellington £250 and a diamond ring valued at £SOO. The charges against Gilmour are of procuring with intent to defraud payment of the following sums by tlie Following persons:—F. L. Marshall, Wellington, £SO; William. Clans Hanson, Wellington, £200; J. J. Patterson, Manaia, £500; W. F. Stevens, Marton, £250; J. J. Patterson, Manaia, £175; J. T. Benge, Upper llutt, £IOO. All the charges concern representations made by cipfendanls regarding flood or motor headlights.
