A 21st BIRTHDAY
On Wednesday afternoon a. delightful little ceremony was held at the premises of Messrs McKay and Sons Ltd., in connection with their 21st birthday celebrations. This w'as fihe cutting of the cake which was done by Mrs Nightingale in the presence of the Mayor, Mr W. J. Moffatt and Mrs Moffatt and a large gathering of citizens. In calling on Mrs Nightingale to perform the ceremony, the managing director, Mr W. A. Armstrong, addressed the gathering and gave a brief outline of the history of the firm from the time it was founded in Hokitika many years ago, down to the present time. He expressed the thanks of the directors to the many customers who had given their patronage and goodwill to the firm during the past 21 years and had enabled the firm to give service which he felt could be considered of definite value to the community. The opinion was expressed that if the business was continued on the lines laid down by Mr Nightingale and Mr McKay, it would continue successfully through the many generations. A hearty welcome was given to those in attendance particularly to Mr and Mrs Moffatt, and Mr Moffatt was asked to accept the piece of cake which was then cut by Mrs Nightingale amidst hearty applause. Mr Moffatt thanked the directors for the invitation to attend, -also for the piece of cake and wished tile firm all future success. The function concluded with a distribution to those present of pieces of cake nicely boxed with appropriate wording.
